Queen Mary 2 in Auckland

QM2 in auckland. It was taken just after 7 am on 17th Feb 2007 when she made her first visit, during the first round the world trip. Taken from North Head (a small hill, ex volcano) in Devonport Auckland (a fantastic location looking out over the whole harbour in all directions - perfect for ship spotters!) In the background are some of the islands of the Hauraki Gulf: Motuihe and Waiheke, and further behind is the Coromandel Peninsula.

As you can see it was a beautiful morning and the ship had waited in the distance for about an hour till the sun started to rise, before approaching. By that time thousands and thousands of people were lining both sides of the harbour and every other possible vantage point. She left about 11pm to a major fireworks display over the city and as many spectators as there had been in the morning lining the harbour.

The two large sailing boats in front of the ship are ex-Americas Cup yachts, now used for charter.
